Serving as a councillor has been satisfying

How wonderful it has been to serve the people of St. Albert over the last nine years as St. Albert city councillor. I have served with three amazingly dedicated councils and incredible people who all gave 100 per cent in serving St. Albert.

How wonderful it has been to serve the people of St. Albert over the last nine years as St. Albert city councillor.

I have served with three amazingly dedicated councils and incredible people who all gave 100 per cent in serving St. Albert. Yes, it has meant sacrifices for me and also for my family but this experience was very rich in rewards, probably the best of which is to have met so many wonderful citizens and entrepreneurs who have all played a part in this great community. I can’t thank them enough for their time, their input, their dedication and their support.

I particularly want to thank the citizens who gave me their vote of confidence in all past elections and those who continue to support me despite my narrow loss, particularly my family.

It is not until you serve as an elected official that you truly appreciate the bigger picture. People are passionate about the issues that are closest to them, their neighbourhoods, community arts and heritage, recreation, the environment, business development, seniors and community services to name only a few. Everyone who questioned and challenged me and the decisions before council has made a difference and I thank you all.

My advice to our new council is that they nurture a vision to keep this community rich and vibrant, to listen to those who have input and take the time to consider what is best for the greater community.

I wish this council the best and trust that they will rise to the challenge put before them by those who voted on Oct. 18.

Merci beaucoup!

J.C. (James) Burrows, St. Albert
