It takes a village to raise a child, as the saying goes. St. Albert is the best place to raise a family in all of Canada. That's high praise and a distinction I believe our community has earned. Our village does a great job of raising our children. It is beholden upon our entire village to teach our children that we can disagree with each other in a respectful and polite way.
The St. Albert Gazette has written two pieces about the rude comments and personal attacks in our municipal politics. I've also noticed that the Gazette no longer allows “anonymous comments” on their website. The result is that most of the hateful attacks have all but vanished from their website.
Kudos for making a stand for decency.
I hope that as we enter the election season, we will all remember that our youth are watching. We have an opportunity to show them that we can debate topics politely and respectfully. How we treat our candidates, and how they treat each other, is a lesson for our children. What message do we want to teach them this year?
