Secular schooling needs to be provided

I agree with Richard Nobert’s letter in the Feb. 2 Gazette. The provincial government is not doing its elected duty when there isn’t a public secular school available for all children who are not Roman Catholic to attend.

My oldest grandchildren, now ages 31 and 28, had to attend the Legal school and because they were Protestant, were treated like lepers when they opted out of the religious classes. They were either stood in the hall or put in a room alone —— not a very nice way to be treated. This didn’t go unnoticed by their classmates, who did their fair share of bullying.

For grades 3 and 5 they lived with me for one year in another province and thrived in a regular public school.

I urge this group of Morinville parents to put pressure on the provincial government through the elected representatives to build a secular school in all the communities where there is no choice.
