When I was a child, Mrs. Schuchard was my beloved piano and voice coach, teaching me technique and helping refine and improve my natural talent. She was such a kind, patient and effervescent soul, ever encouraging and proud of the accomplishments I garnered through the success of her mentorship.
I was featured once in the St. Albert Gazette for my involvement in a musical, Oliver! which was performed over the summer of 1989. I was 12 years old. I believe I owe an enormous amount of gratitude to one special woman, Mrs. Schuchard, for having been given such a memorable and cherished opportunity. Such an extraordinary experience!
It was under her wing that I learned stage presence, voice projection, breath control and most importantly, confidence as a performer.
Over the years, I have frequently wondered what and how she was doing. It was with terrible sadness that I read of her passing in the March 11th issue of the Gazette.
Although she is no longer with us, I am filled with a tremendous amount of pride, gratitude, and reverence for having been a part of her life and her having played an important part in mine.
As children, we never bother to wonder how or why these special people contribute to our lives. Always focused on her students' accomplishments, she was a humble and dedicated giver of music. She was indeed a visionary and a generous contributor to our arts community here in St. Albert. We should count ourselves fortunate to have had such a remarkable and long-standing woman in our graces.
From my heart to yours, Mrs. Schuchard, I thank you for inspiring me, once again!
