In response to the letter from planner and engineer Ken Johnson (Gazette, Jan. 20): I have no problem with being labelled in the pejorative sense as a “NIMBY” or as someone who defends his self-interests against those who think they have the “God-given” right to impose their vision that is not in my best interest. I am both a Braeside resident and a defender of the public good.
The residents of Braeside who oppose the 90-unit condo project between the Sturgeon River and Sturgeon Road are opposing it because we feel it doesn’t belong in or around the St. Albert River Valley.
Our focus is to preserve and protect the St. Albert River Valley. We already have two multi-tenant complexes between the Sturgeon River and Sturgeon Road which have blocked everyone’s view and everyone’s access to the Sturgeon River Flood Plain. The Sturgeon River valley is for everyone, not just for self-interested developers and their customers.
