We can always count on letter writer Doris Wrench Eisler (Gazette, March 7) to lump everything in one basket and give it to us in some black and white form. No, Doris, religious institutions are not in the business of "forgiving" sin. That is strictly the purview of God, through the sacrifice of His Son. And no, Doris, sex is not considered sinful. It too is a gift of God to His people, to be enjoyed in the confines of the married state. And no, Doris, just because women bear children, it cannot be assumed that they should have as many as possible. And no, Doris, not all religious institutions view contraceptives and other methods as "verboten".
I would also suggest that her "hundreds of thousands" of women who die in childbirth would have more to do with primitive medical facilities than a lack of access to abortions or contraceptives. Her final paragraph perhaps sums up best what those on the left really believe and want. That we as Christian parents don't have the right to voice our beliefs publicly or to our children. She ends suggesting that if there is a God, she is certain he is not fixated on the sexual proclivities of consenting adults. Well Doris, He does exist and He is fixated on everything.
These discussions all started with complaints that someone was brought in to discuss abstinence as an option to contraceptives in school. Can you just imagine how much of society's ills would virtually disappear if only our youth would "abstain".
Single motherhood, STDs, most abortions, etc, etc. One can only hope and pray.
