Crossing Sir Winston Churchill Avenue at Fairview Boulevard is getting more dangerous. Cars are driving fast and red lights obviously don't mean stop for some people. In the past three months my dog and I have almost been hit crossing at that walk light. I realize it is early – 5 a.m. – but a red light still means stop.
The first instance, I saw two vehicles going towards Boudreau. I pushed the button thinking it would give the drivers time to stop. For some reason I decided to stop half way across ... good thing ... one of the vehicles went right through the red light and would have hit us.
On Tuesday, Nov. 29 it happened again. I saw a vehicle coming but it wasn't close so I pushed the button, the light went red and we crossed. It was cooler this morning so we decided to run across the road. Good thing, because once we got across, the vehicle went right through the red light.
In both cases the vehicles were vans. I wish I could have got their licence but they were going too fast. I don't understand drivers. It's not like they couldn't see us. I wear a reflector vest and my dog has a red light on his collar. One of these days someone will get hit on this road and I am hoping that it isn't either myself or my dog.
Drivers need to realize that a red light means stop at all times of the day.
