Jeff, I would like to commend and thank you for the excellent "Our Views " published in last Saturday's and today's editions (St. Albert Gazette, March 19 and 23).
I agree that the lawsuit instituted by the city manager was frivolous at best. It would have been near impossible for the city manager to demonstrate what degree his reputation was tarnished by the blog, and how it would have reduced his future earning potential. Now taxpayers are on the hook for not only his legal expenses, but also double of those for the defendant.
With regards to hiring/reclassify any job posting, as city manager he has unlimited authority. However, one of two things should happen. Either have the province conduct an independent investigation to determine the next steps, or have his contract terminated now for conduct unbecoming.
Unfortunately, neither the mayor nor the majority of council has the backbone to do either.
