Rainbow crosswalk would be poor use of tax dollars

I was just reading ( Gazette , May 12) that there was a recent poll online in regards to whether to use taxpayers' money to pay for a rainbow crosswalk. I did not see the poll since I am not on facebook nor do I spend all my time on the computer.

Personally I think it is a horrible idea. That is not a good use of hard-earned taxpayers' dollars. What people do in their own homes is none of my business, but ... when it comes to spending taxpayers' dollars that is my business.

This is a slippery slope. If you recognize one group, then you will have to recognize every group. What is the city going to do to recognize heterosexuals or any other group? This is all based on sexual orientation and as such has no business being recognized with taxpayer money.

If the city has more money than they know what to do with ... please give us some of our money back. The citizens of St. Albert work hard for what they earn and their tax dollars should be better respected. This has nothing to do with being homophobic or anything else ... as I stated earlier ... what people do in their homes is none of my business or anyone else's frankly, but what is done with tax dollars is the business of every taxpayer in this city.
