The City of St. Albert web page, under the Natural Environment page, boasts a great claim: “We protect, embrace and treasure our deeply-rooted connections with the natural environment through championing environmental action.” The page then goes on to describe how St. Albert will stand united to “preserve, protect and enjoy our Sturgeon River valley, natural areas and ravines and their contribution to biodiversity.”
After reading this, I find a "Notice of Public Information", describing a plan to fill yet more of the river valley with low-rise apartments. (Lots 53-57 Sturgeon Road). And if that weren't enough, taking up usable city green space to do it!
Anyone who has walked down the Sturgeon River and past the concrete wall –don't forget the lovely "naturalization area" – that is the Tenor Building should be aware that there is a plan in place to extend that wall. All for what, stuffing in more people to keep up with Capital Region Board’s requirements? More taxes? Revenue for the developer?
I don't think when they said “stand united” they meant “form a wall with a bunch of condos.” But that's exactly what's being proposed.
