Picking on low-income families is not OK

Re: “High-earning families part of St. Albert’s appeal,” Gazette, Saturday, April 3. Chris and Karleena Perry may be able to afford to live in St. Albert but I don't believe that they "deserve" to live in St. Albert or even a democracy for that matter.

They seem to believe a caste system should be established and heaven forbid if someone from a lower caste should share the hallowed ground that he and his family walk on. By their expressed way of thinking, the Bernie Madoffs and Earl Jones's would be upstanding citizens. If you exchanged the word Habitat for Humanity, for the word "poor" and then replace "poor" with a religion or race and then tried to explain in detail how this group would cause St. Albert to be overrun by crime where you'd need a police presence just to have a family outing, it couldn't be printed. There are laws to protect the distribution of hate material.

Pick on the people without substantial means and it's OK? I think not. Not being of wealth does not constitute a crime nor a desire to make one of criminal intent. The environment one is raised in has a large impact on that child’s character. Their son may have had trouble being accepted due to the environment in which he is being raised, where the value of a person is deemed by his/her bank account over and above their moral character. I had to laugh at his assertion, "We don’t want to worry about people speeding, possibly hitting our kids." Kind of hard to do with a bus pass that you suggest they get.

With his name, his views and his company name being spread like wildfire over the Internet, "A fool and his money are soon parted" may be an appropriate saying in this case. I hope the Perrys are able to maintain their ivory tower existence and lifestyle they feel they so richly deserve; just don't include myself and the rest of St. Albert’s fine citizens in your delusional world.
