To the family who lost their beloved pet, a beautiful black and white collie, on Monday evening, Aug. 11th, in a hit and run accident at Giroux Road and Dufferin Street ... a carefree spirit, happy to seize a few moments of freedom visiting the neighbourhood, and probably on his way back home to you.
We don't know your names, we don't know your pet's name ... but we want to let you know, and hope you find some comfort in knowing, that your dog was surrounded by caring people, and held and loved as he took his last breaths.
This tragedy affected many – the people who stopped to offer assistance; the RCMP officers who compassionately responded to the scene; even the unknown driver, probably still in shock, remorseful and afraid. I'm sure I speak for all when I say we feel your grief, and you're in our thoughts.
Please know that your precious pet was not alone, and honestly, he did not suffer for long, held in my son's arms as he quietly slipped away.
I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
