Re: Countdown lights (Gazette letters, July 21).
Pedestrian countdown lights are just that ... pedestrian use! Driver training teaches not to look at those if you are driving; they are not meant for cars.
I am wondering if it was you who nearly plowed into myself and my infant daughter. Alberta Traffic states “When a green light changes to yellow it warns that the light will change immediately to red and drivers must prepare to stop or clear the intersection. Drivers approaching an intersection with a solid yellow light must come to a complete stop. Drivers in the intersection must clear the intersection safely.“
I was in the intersection waiting to turn left. Light went yellow and was almost red when a red truck came plowing though. This truck entered unsafely and too late into the light change. Going though a yellow because you do not want to slow down is a poor excuse. Too bad if people tailgate you and want to go around, let them be the neglectful driver, not you. I was taught not to let others change my good driving habits.
Slowing down and proceeding with caution in busy intersections can safe a life or spare one life-changing injuries.
