Omar Khadr doesn't belong in Canada

Re: ‘Khadr saga far from over,’ Oct. 23 Gazette:

Why the misplaced sympathy for Omar Khadr? The Khadr family, although they hold a Canadian passport, have as much loyalty and love for Canada as the Chinese-made toy Mounties and totem poles sold at the gift stores in Jasper or Banff. Khadr admitted to throwing the hand grenade and killing the American soldier, admitted being a member of al-Qaida, and according to the court psychiatrist is dedicated fanatically to his cause, the cause being the destruction of Western civilization and replacing it with a barbaric form of his version of Islam.

I am very thankful that Stephen Harper did his utmost to keep this barbarian out of Canada. Of course we can thank Jean Chretien for putting pressure on the Pakistani government to let Ahmed Khadr out of prison and into Canada along with his family.

Why we needed people like the Khadrs in Canada is beyond comprehension. There are literally hundreds of millions of people who would like to come to Canada and I am certainly happy that the government welcomes about a quarter-million immigrants a year. Do we really need to admit people who come here with the agenda to destroy our free and democratic society? The Khadrs should have never been allowed into Canada. Dear editor, instead of having misplaced sympathies for a convicted terrorist, you should have sympathy for the poor old Canadian taxpayers who will keep paying for years for Khadr.
