Something does not smell right with the latest sewage line decision! Councillors are surprised by the massive cost over run and by the sound of it – the cost may be even higher! (Project goes from $27 million to over $48 million St. Albert Gazette Oct. 21).
It would seem that the earlier decision was made in the planning and engineering department; for the last few years we have not had a senior administrator in this department who has planning and engineering skills – so who drew up the initial design? Whoever it was must surely have been lacking knowledge about environmental impact. I wonder who is doing the rest of the geotechnical study required to enable this future development and who is capable of truly overseeing this project.
As I have observed I believe there is more than a whiff of incompetence with this project, which begs the question, how many other city infrastructure tasks lack competent oversight and expertise. Perhaps we should invest in a large order of Febreze for the city community and development officer so that he is not overcome by fumes in the botanical arts city!
