Not a petty matter

I was most interested in the observations of Jim Lightbody, University of Alberta Professor of Political Science, in the Saturday (01/21/17) edition of the St. Albert Gazette on the topic of Mayor Nolan Crouse’s political aspirations. These entail retaining his position as mayor of St. Albert and chairman of the Capital Regional Board while at the same time campaigning for Leader of the Alberta Liberal Party. Lightbody contends that despite the absence of any legal impediment such behaviour would be inarguably unethical.

Based on the mayor’s past actions, it is uncertain if impropriety alone will be a sufficient deterrence. The comments provided by Ken Allred in the Gazette (Jan. 25 edition) comprise a ringing endorsement of Nolan Crouse while negating even the slightest hint of the political storm clouds hanging over the Mayor’s head. Allred states; “…let’s put the petty politics aside and wish Nolan Crouse well in his bid for the Liberal Leadership…” to wit dear sir, I am compelled to point out that these matters are anything but ‘petty’.
