It was reported earlier this month that Mayor Don Iveson said “the free ride is over,” that it’s time to look at other municipalities to help foot the bill for things like the zoo, Telus science centre, etc. He said during a meeting with our mayor, Cathy Heron, she said to send us a bill. (Edmonton Journal, Dec. 7).
I wonder if she hasn’t lost her mind? Offering our hard-earned tax dollars to bail out another municipality. If I utilize one of these places like the zoo, I do not get in free, it’s called admission. So, let me propose this: we start charging for the use of the water and skate park, to enjoy the botanical park, bike paths, etc. Also, maybe a parking enforcement program. Just think of the money we could take in.
If our mayor is going to raise our taxes, which are one of the highest in Alberta, then I suspect Morinville, Legal and also Edmonton will get a bill from us, since those citizens are using our facilities for nothing, as my property taxes go to maintain these parks I do not use, so others can use them.
That is mighty generous of us taxpayers in St. Albert to open up our wallets for the enjoyment of others. Our mayor continues to pick our pockets until we are left with nothing but lint, but I suspect that she will want that, too.
Our province is currently suffering an economic downturn and every penny counts. Your free liberal spending is not conducive to the citizens of St Albert.
