Re: Doris Wrench Eisler's letter, "No going back" (Gazette, Feb. 4).

I would like to know who is suggesting “an unregulated resource industry.” That just does not make any sense.

You stated, “one in four U.S. citizens count on the nuclear and conventional arms industries for employment … .” Are you really suggesting over 80,000,000 Americans are in the arms business? Where did that figure come from?

You used the term “hypocritical” about those critical of rich Americans coming to Alberta and commenting of a subject that they really do not know or understand. The Americans do not have a sterling record on greenhouse gas (GHG) production. Just two of their more than 1,300 coal burning electrical plants produce more GHG than the oilsands. Who is being “hypocritical?”

You state the rest of the world has not been happy with us on the issue of global warming. That's interesting given we are the sixth largest producer of world oil. We provide less than five per cent of the world oil and at the same time Canada contributes less than two per cent of the world’s GHG, and the oilsands contribute less than two tenths of one per cent of the world’s GHG.

I think Canada and Alberta are doing well with respect to the environment.
