Nelson wrong on environmental movement

When I wrote regular columns for the Gazette, the editor judged them on the number of letters, pro or con, that they attracted. Based on that, Chris Nelson will be a huge success, and I gather his will be a monthly effort. His Nov.

His Nov. 16th column managed to use the execution of Munir Adam as an opportunity to slag our local environmental movement. I would like to claim to be a part of that. Apparently, our “gamesmanship and hypocrisy” presents us with “a grand life of a protestor.” Excuse me, but Trump has not yet taken over Canada and I am proud that I am still able to use my constitutional right to voice an opinion, despite Mr. Nelson. Apparently we are "getting grants" in order to enjoy the "moral high ground?” Give me a huge break! There may be some small government grants but most environmental funding comes from private donations by those who agree with us. If Mr. Nelson feels somehow damaged because his taxes are being mis-used, he ought to complain to the municipal, provincial and federal governments that so far have welcomed local environmental involvement.

Perhaps Mr. Nelson should be invited to address one or more of those groups, to explain himself?

There you go, Mr. Nelson; with a letter like this, your future is assured in the St. Albert Gazette.

Bob Lane, St. Albert
