Machine guns can't reach that high

While perusing Ms. Wrench Eisler’s contribution to the Your Views page (Gazette, April 19) I had to chuckle a little at her assertion that Flight MH17 could have been brought down by machine gun fire.

While perusing Ms. Wrench Eisler’s contribution to the Your Views page (Gazette, April 19) I had to chuckle a little at her assertion that Flight MH17 could have been brought down by machine gun fire. I admit I’m no expert when it comes to machine guns, but a quick search for MH17 on Wikileaks reveals that the plane was flying at around 33,000 feet. And that seems like a bit of a stretch to expect a machine gun to be effective at that range.

As for Michael Bociurkiw – I understand he’s a journalist, not an arms expert.
