As a former resident of St. Albert for more than 20 years, I was deeply affected by the shooting incident of last weekend and the cowardly shooting of the two RCMP officers.
I raised my three children in a safe friendly community where we had little fear of violence and gunfire erupting in our neighbourhoods. On a few occasions I have to admit, when seeing a police cruiser coming down my street I had to think, “Damn, what had one of my boys done now.”
And I was one of the lucky parents who had the opportunity to meet Const. David Wynn on a few occasions when my son was brought home in his cruiser or at the school where my son attended.
Const. Wynn knew my son on a first name basis as they had crossed paths on several occasions. My son today is seeking a profession in the medical field and possibly a future in policing, thanks to Const. David Wynn and other members of the St. Albert RCMP that take the time and energy to help build a community of compassionate young people and mentor them through their teenage years to become law abiding citizens.
