One of St. Albert’s most admired and respected naturalists has passed away. Peter Demulder was a founding member of the Big Lake Environment Support Society (BLESS) and many of us first met him there, although he was already well known for his interest in natural history.
His interests took him to many Alberta locations, including Lois Hole Provincial Park and Elk Island Park.
Part of Peter’s charm was his sense of humour and his ability to mimic various birds. His calls of yellow-headed and red-winged blackbirds were startlingly accurate. His northern shoveler duck impression was well known for his humorous interpretation.
Peter and his wife Dierdre are both sorely missed.
