Libraries should attract more users

In response to Frank Piorkowski's letter (Gazette, Oct. 15) yes I understand the purpose of libraries.

Had you read the letter carefully, you would realize my objection to building another library is two-fold:

First, the current library is overcrowded with books, not people. Less than one per cent of residents use the library on a regular basis. The library director needs to place his focus on culling low subscription books, in order to create sufficient room for new books, rather than being involved in politics by having library attendees sign petitions. Spending $20 million simply to create more space to warehouse books seems a waste of money.

Second, schools are already using electronic readers. Some schools start as early as Grade 4. Bricks and mortar are well past their usefulness. It's time to change our thinking on how we are going to deliver all goods and services, including education.

Your personal attack simply reflects a weak argument and a closed mind.
