It seems to me that this fall’s election would be an opportune time for city council to place a question on the ballot to seek the views of our citizens regarding the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP).
A question such as, “Do you favour the DARP proposal?” would be an appropriate proposal to place in front of our citizens. I cannot support DARP at this stage because the cost has not been clearly spelled out and the last thing I want to see is another tax increase.
This proposal doesn’t just effect the downtown immediate-area residents because if there is a cost to be borne as a result of this project going ahead without a proper fiscal analysis and spending goes into a black hole, then all the residents will be impacted.
Let’s get it on the ballot and not force our citizens to spend hours of what is left of summer trying to get a petition together to have council do what they should do without being compelled to do it.
