I am amazed that council is now negotiating with the swim club to get another lane at Fountain Park Pool! I am disappointed that the St. Albert Sailfish swim club has not really attempted to address the real issue in St. Albert – we need another swimming pool – they must have their reasons!
Now that it has been decided to buy extra space for another library and a new arena, why not add a swimming pool to this site! Yes the mayor said we could not look at this until 2020 – but by the time they’ve got the land, approved the plans and started the build it will be 2020. Let’s be proactive – get this pool built!
There have been more than enough complaints about the lack of space for swimmers, for lessons, just go down to Fountain Park on the morning of registration day. Let us do the right thing now! After all we are planning to have many more people living in downtown – if the Grandin mall site is to be believed! If we are really trying to encourage young families to live here then either we tell them if you want your children to have pool access they have to go to Edmonton or we tell them we really care about recreation and safety – we are building another pool!
