Large diesel spewing buses should be replaced

I could not agree more with Peter Woolridge’s letter ( Gazette , June 16). Driving north through St. Albert on St. Albert Trail, one is almost guaranteed to hit six to eight red lights, or even more, filling our atmosphere with excess exhaust fumes.

In a related matter, one can see full-sized buses driving all around town, all through the day, with nobody on them. Now, I realize we are switching to electric buses, but the electricity has to come from somewhere too.

Are we so arrogant that we think it’s an insult to acquire smaller buses? I may be wrong but it seems to me that the only real need for these full-sized behemoths is to carry students into Edmonton, not to spew diesel fumes through our residential neighbourhoods.
