Maybe someone can explain to me why we need another library. This council and the library board have the same mentality: spend, spend, spend, and the taxpayers pay, pay, pay.
How many St. Albert taxpayers use this library? I myself do not have to use it, because I have a computer and a phone to give me all the info I need, plus Facebook, YouTube and if I want to read a book I have an e-reader as do most taxpayers.
From what I gather most schools have computers and libraries. Students also have personal computers and iPhones, etc. Maybe the library board, city mayor and council in their infinite wisdom could stop for a moment and realize that we are not made of money. Many of us have lost jobs. The cost of living has gone up because some of us want to go green. Why is this not put forward to the citizens of St. Albert to vote on? Now they have cut out the fees so all taxpayers have to carry the burden whether they use the facility or not. Just like Servus Place anyone who lives outside of St. Albert can use the facility and pay the same price we do. Is that what will happen with the library or will they charge outsiders? I feel we will be looking after them also, through higher taxes again.
When does it end? We can't afford it. Maybe the next mayor and town council will give it more thought.
