Is it time for provincial intervention?

This is a letter of complaint to each and all of you on St. Albert Council: For many months past, we, the residents of our fine city have watched what seems to be serious dysfunctional behaviour of our elected officials.

This is a letter of complaint to each and all of you on St. Albert Council:

For many months past, we, the residents of our fine city have watched what seems to be serious dysfunctional behaviour of our elected officials.

While some of you want transparency, a majority seem to want secretiveness which of course encourages corruption.

There have been many, many examples of mismanagement at the upper levels of administration, policies that prevent real progress.

And now the Prefontaine issue that clearly shows the malfeasance that is leaving an odorous pall over all that occurs within council and city hall.

You – each of you – know what is going on and where, so far, you stand on all the issues.

It is time to think carefully what you stand for and what you will no longer tolerate.

We cannot afford any further increase in our taxes, direct or indirect.

Unnecessary administrative positions, make-work and special interest projects that seem to proliferate at an unprecedented rate – rotating median decoration, bike park, DARP, signage, etc. – along with protocols and procedures that obfuscate development and investment, policies that allow reimbursement of expenses without receipts are but a few examples that indicate a need of reform and/or replacement of our decision makers.

I realize there are some of you upon whom these criticisms do not apply. If the cap fits – wear it!

Must we petition the provincial government for intervention, or will you change your ways and do what is right?

Bert LaBuick, St. Albert
