I find it incredibly ironic that the March 12 workshop on FOIP (freedom of information and privacy) was “not open to the public.” Especially when all the council candidates ran on platforms that included their commitments to a more open and transparent council.
This seems to be a repeat of St. Albert city council's recent debacle where the strategic planning workshops held Jan. 11 and 12 in Westlock were advertised as closed to the public but after it was over it was clarified that it was supposed to be open to the public.
As Mayor Cathy Heron clarified to the Gazette “workshops” are supposed to be open to the public, unfortunately it seems the freedom of info “workshop” will not be free information to the public.
