I would reduce the mayor’s salary by 15 per cent; after all, the city manager does most of the heavy lifting.
I would have one city department, one supplier and one non-profit recipient of city funds audited each year for cost-benefit analysis on behalf of all taxpayers.
I would freeze manpower hiring for two years.
I would identify and re-assess age-old sacred cows for cost savings.
I would encourage a debate whether major recreational, cultural or social projects costing more than $15 million be decided or not decided by a public plebiscite. Do we desire or not desire maximizing community participation in major quality of life issues?
