Pedestrians' intentions at street corners can be hard to read.
Some are waiting for buses and have no intentions of crossing.
Some intend to cross but are having phone or other conversations delaying the crossing.
Some bolt to catch a bus or play.
Some don't stop at corners because they are running a set goal time and don't see the need to stop at pedestrian crossings.
As a driver I try to make eye contact with the pedestrian to decipher intentions.
I'm not even going to mention fog, snow and several other elements that need to be factored into risk assessment at a street corner. I just feel bus stops near a street corner increase risks of accidents between pedestrians and vehicles. Not sure if it could be called "numbed intuition " at a location where most stand. I feel there is a higher risk for the odd pedestrian leaving the crowd or that fatidic 10 seconds an impulsive teenager runs to catch the bus.
I wish for safer street corners and bus stops for our youth.
