Have a spotter when using a ladder

On Wednesday, Nov 16, I was hanging Christmas lights using a 12-foot ladder. The ladder tipped and I landed on top of it, breaking my wrist. Within moments, neighbours Laura and Brian were there to assist, while a woman walking her dog called 911.

On Wednesday, Nov 16, I was hanging Christmas lights using a 12-foot ladder. The ladder tipped and I landed on top of it, breaking my wrist. Within moments, neighbours Laura and Brian were there to assist, while a woman walking her dog called 911. They took great care of me until firefighters showed up, followed by the paramedics. Before leaving, the firefighters finished putting up the lights, and hung up the ladder back in the garage.

At the Sturgeon hospital, and later at the Royal Alex, I received excellent care and treatment of my badly broken wrist.

Another neighbour dropped off a dinner basket to help us out when I was finally back home.

My wife and I want to say thank you. We are very grateful for the warmth and caring of our community of St. Albert.

Final note – a learning moment – I broke my own rule, using the ladder without a spotter. Don’t make the same mistake. Peter Moloney, St. Albert
