On July 30, Jarome Iginla will officially retire from the NHL.
Jarome was raised and played his entire minor-league career (not including major junior) in St. Albert. He embodies the sportsmanship, perseverance and community involvement that serve as an excellent model for all kids in sport, but especially those in our minor hockey program.
Beyond that, he is undoubtedly headed to the Hockey Hall of Fame in the near future, and it would be fitting for his name to be placed on the Akinsdale Arena, where he played so many games and shaped his talents and persona. I hope others will follow me and write letters to the city to show their support for this idea. Thanks.
Ken Klak, St. Albert
