Facility would pay for itself

In concurrence with Jim Rossmann's view Jan. 5 and the many concerns regarding waste collection fees from the taxpayers of St. Albert, I would like to suggest that the tax dollars and any funding from government/private enterprise be spent to build a waste separation disposal facility, right here in the City of St. Albert.

If Iceland, Halifax and two other major European cities can collect all garbage and send it unsorted to a waste separation/disposal facility, why can’t we?

The benefits to the environment surely outweigh the costs to invest in such a facility in the long run. We really only need two trucks — one for all household garbage and compostables, plus a second for recycling only.

All garbage and recyclables could be sorted at the one location. The plant generates its own power from the methane gas byproduct.

The technology already exists. Every city on the planet Earth should have such a facility. We should demand it and the federal, provincial and municipal governments should fund it.
