Ensure complaints are valid

My wife and I moved from a suburb neighourhood in St. Albert to a condo in the Perron District in downtown St. Albert a couple of years ago. Having amenities such as restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance was a big part of this decision so we were especially pleased when we heard about a new restaurant/pub being opened just down the street, especially given that the owners of the proposed restaurant already operate an excellent restaurant in this area.

It has come to our attention, however that this may not happen due to opposition from another nearby organization due to parking issues. Parking issues? Please tell me where at least 80 per cent to 90 per cent of the business in downtown St. Albert has parking except on the street or in the City of St. Albert's central parking area.

We agree that development needs to be managed but the negative opposition we see directed at most new proposals or developments in this city seems more motivated by the NIMBY mantra than any logical reasoning.

Due to regulations, the City of St. Albert is forced to hear and decide upon this complaint but we urge them to support this new business and send the message that they stand behind their stated position of developing our downtown core into a vibrant and desirable area to live and visit.
