Drop-in swimmers also have needs

This letter refers to the most recent article in the St. Albert Gazette about the St. Albert Sailfish Swim Club lobbying to use an additional lane to expand the club. I’m one of the frequent drop-in users of the St. Albert Fountain Park swimming pool and in my opinion the number of lanes available to drop-in users is far insufficient already. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is only one lane available for public users from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. One lane may serve four to six members of a swim club swimming at approximately the same pace, but not three or four drop-in users who are usually at very different levels of skill. On several occasions I tried to use the only lane available for drop-in users but gave up having seen three or more swimmers there. One lane for public swimmers at the prime time is far insufficient to accommodate swimmers of different levels. Many other drop-in users who are really dissatisfied with the access problem in the public facility share my opinion. I urge the City of St. Albert to make a decision that would take into account the needs of drop-in users, not just the swim clubs. Henryk Kolacz, St. Albert
