Driver needs a maturity check

To the baby-faced young man who flew out of Heritage Lakes via Hudson Drive around 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4: did you see your light was red? Did you notice that you swung out into the left lane of Levasseur Road, causing three cars to brake for you? Probably not, because you were in such an important hurry. Too bad the light at Gervais Road had the audacity to stop you; you could’ve arrived at your destination that much sooner. Granted, you were too busy texting to bother watching a light. Is that why you drove into the next intersection on a red, only to stop there and wait? Or is it too difficult for you to hold a brake pedal and text? And the old man in the yellow raincoat who was crossing at the crosswalk on Gervais, just think, another step and he might have dented your car. Boy, you would’ve been really late then! Let's be honest though, I don't think you even saw him or the stopped cars because you were too busy staring at your crotch as you sped down the road.

Seriously though. How pig-headed do you have to be to completely disregard everyone and everything around you while driving a car? How stupid do you have to be to value a meme or “lol” over the life of another human being? Is instantly reading and responding to a text worth risking the consequences of an accident, with other cars or pedestrians?

Perhaps you’ve never been in an accident. If today is any indication, this is in no way due to your skills as a driver. Sheer dumb luck maybe, and certainly the fact that everyone else was alert enough to avoid you. Or was today your first day driving, and you just had to update your Facebook as you drove? If that’s the case, don't worry; I’m sure your skills will catch up to you shortly. Just think, if that old man had been walking like you were driving, head buried in his phone, he may very well have been hit. Thankfully, he had the common sense to stay out of the way. Common sense that you, young man, are seriously lacking. Grow up!
