A response to Peter Wooldridge's letter to the editor (Gazette, Feb. 1) regarding cold weather commuting is quite simple, since he poses the question that “passengers continue to be expected to dress appropriately for the weather.” The answer is simply ‘yes.’
We have all received this lecture from our parents, and other responsible adults. Woolridge suggests that this clothing responsibility may be set aside because he rides the bus. The answer to this is simply ‘no.’ It is unfortunate that the letter tries to cloud the facts with the phrase that “recently temperatures were dangerously low.”
We are experiencing a rather mild winter in Alberta, so I think this statement is false. He does mention wind chill as the major factor in cold weather safety, and he points out that the lower terminal offers protection from the wind.
The safety issue in this case is managed, as long as you listened to your parents and other responsible adults, and dress appropriately for the weather.
