As a senior, and a dog lover (I own two), I am now very apprehensive about crossing paths with any dogs, more specifically the larger types. On Nov. 20 at 9:15 a.m. I was out for my morning walk eastbound on Giroux, just before Bellerose High School. I met a woman walking toward me with two large dogs on leash, a brownish coloured German shepherd and a black and white dog with long hair of the same size. We exchanged greetings when suddenly one of these dogs (the German shepherd) turned on me and bit me very hard mid-thigh. As I write this, the bite area is now becoming increasingly bruised, more painful and blood has seeped to my skin surface where the dog’s teeth scraped through the surface on the skin.
The woman pulled her dog away from me, said she was sorry, and walked away with both dogs. My only thought at the time was to get away from the dogs, and was not able to ask this person for a name or address. I reported this incident to the RCMP and then sought medical assistance for the bite. Law enforcement cannot follow up the incident without a name or address.
I am hoping someone may have seen this or may know of the dogs as described above. Please call our local RCMP if you are able to provide any information.
This could have been a child walking to school!
