I try to do what I can for the environment and the planet. I recycle, blue bag what I can, brown can what I can't and use the recycling depot as needed. I just wish the City of St. Albert made it easier to do the right thing.
I am speaking specifically of the Mike Mitchell Recycling Depot. It's only open five days a week. Closed Sunday, which I agree with. But Monday? Come on now. Of the five days that it's open, three are 10-6. Saturday 9-5 and Thursday 12-8.
Why is the city spending $96K on a single use plastic survey and not spending the money to extend the hours of the place where we can actually recycle those single use bags? Or $800K on a storefront library citizens clearly voted against, and don't tell me a storefront library isn't just a watered down branch library, that will cost us millions over 10 years, but I digress, I'll come back to that one in 2021 during election time Or better yet, split the shifts. One person, 10-6, one person 12-8, with six hours overlap and extended hours, I am sure the good people of St. Albert would do their part if the City made it easier for us to do so.
