I have lived in St Albert for 36 years. I have seen city councils come and go. Now we are nearing another election and I hope that those who decide to run for council do so with open minds and their feet on the ground.
This city is not the centre of the universe. It is time to look at our governance in terms of wants and needs, understanding what is required for our population. For example I am a senior, I know a little about computers but do I want a stronger local connection to the electronic super highway? Just because there is federal money available for enhanced Internet connection does not mean that it will not cost us money in the future. Remember everything that we do requires upkeep.
Whether we want to admit it or not economics in this province is changing. Alberta’s population has increased. How we financially sustain ourselves is in a state of flux. Much of what happens is dependent on the world around us. We are just a part of the Capital Region. We need to co-operate and not compete with our neighbors and be part of a supportive solution that enhances quality of life for everyone.
