As St. Albert mayor and city council contemplates what to do with the St. Albert ever-increasing excessive taxpayer dollars, I might suggest there is one city employee that deserves a bonus. This is the person hired to uncoordinate the traffic lights in the city. This person has done an amazing job!
There is concern on council that the revenue generated from photo radar is falling. It cannot be blamed on enforcement but on the simple fact that drivers cannot get up to speed between the red traffic lights.
This city likes to brag about its environmental record but continues to ignore the pollution caused by vehicles idling at red lights and the constant stop-start of traffic. It is well documented that idling and accelerating to speed are the most polluting times of operating a vehicle. By not addressing the traffic flow issues in the city is contributing to the increase of the public carbon footprint.
In campaigning, almost every candidate elected had a platform on dealing with traffic issues in the city. Some touted a study should be done. How many studies do we need? Do something to address the issue!
Instead of wasting money on rainbow crosswalks how about dealing with traffic flow problems in the city.
