Curbside recycling still inadequate

When curbside recycling came to St. Albert I was quite happy, thinking that we would have a system on par with Edmonton.

When curbside recycling came to St. Albert I was quite happy, thinking that we would have a system on par with Edmonton. This has not been the case, as many items that I have been regularly tossing out actually do not get recycled, as they contaminate the bag and therefore end up in the dump.

I was so informed of this when I spoke with the manager of the company that does our recycling, and was told point blank that if the item was not listed on our city website, it would not be recycled. So this leaves out many so called recyclable plastic items, such as Styrofoam meat containers, Saran Wrap, plastic bags, forks, etc. My beef is that I still have to drive to Edmonton anyway to get rid of this stuff our city won't take.

I would like to know why we have to deal with a company that doesn't think there is any value in reducing waste by taking these items off our hands. So I don't see any value in paying taxes for an ineffective system unless we can have the same system Edmonton has.

By the way Edmonton will take your old clothes now and recycle them. Now that’s progressive.
