I would like to comment on Ms. Sara Davis’ letter in the Gazette, May 16, wherein she decries the backgrounds and qualifications of our recently elected MLAs, Ms. Marie Renaud and Mr. Trevor Horne, and then belittles them. It takes courage for many reasons to run for office. One reason is evidenced by Ms. Davis’ personal attacks on these two. More importantly, and unmentioned by her, is that it also takes a strong desire to represent others and provide them with good government. From what I’ve seen of and read about Ms. Renaud and Mr. Horne I think they have a lot of both courage and desire and will be more than able to govern the province in a way that’s representative of today's average Albertan.
Ms. Davis’s brazen elitist last statement that our new MLAs were elected only because of support from uninformed voters is insulting and shows she has absolutely no understanding of the meaning of democracy. It is those sorts of beliefs and sentiments that got the former government rightly thrown from office. Her entire commentary smells strongly of sour grapes.
Fear not, Ms. Davis. This new bunch are much more representative of the average Albertan than the last lot. I’m sure they will do a great job leading us into the future, one which is now a lot brighter than it was before the election.
