Reading over the summary of the municipal inspection report, I could not help but think, why did they do this review in the first place? Did we actually learn anything from it? I think we learned that there was infighting on city council that was preventing constructive work being done. But didn't we already know this? Curiously the report provided examples of deplorable behaviour by councillors, but failed to name them. Yet the report had no problem singling out the mayor for some of his mistakes. These councillors deserved to have their names mentioned as well because the report makes it look like all councillors were disrespectful to one another when that is not true. That is why I am happy with the Gazette's followup article (Sept. 9, 2017) naming the councillors Cam MacKay, Sheena Hughes, and Bob Russell. It is particularly important to know these names since they are all seeking reelection. The issue is not about what stances councillors have, but rather how they articulate them. These three councillors have proven over and over again that if they don't get their way they will throw all class out the window and degrade whoever is in their way. There is no way that these three people could act and say the things they do in a normal workplace or classroom and get away with it. They would be given detention or fired for behaviour issues. I am so sorely disappointed with these three councillors. They may or may not have valid arguments, but continue to shoot themselves with their conduct. I don't expect councillors to be best of buddies, but I do expect respect for one another. It is not okay to disrespect your colleagues or suggest physical harassment, as in Councillor Russell's case, just because the argument is not going in your favour. That's beyond being a sore loser. I respect that every councillor will have visions about what they want the city to look like and what we should be doing in the present. But if you can't conduct yourself or articulate your opinion in a professional manner, I simply will not vote for you. I don't care what you believe in at that point. In the next election, I hope to seek council members who can be role models for children on how to conduct themselves in a work environment. Councillors MacKay, Hughes, and Russell have proven they are not up to that task. Stan Hansen, St. Albert
