I have to agree with most of what Paul Dill had to say about the so-called “branding” program dreamed up by some city officials.

In the first place, the paint the street program outside St. Albert Place came as a surprise to most members of council. In fact, last week when I was questioning the city manager about this he advised us that this project and the cost had not been included in the 2015 budget.

I will support the 2016 program of planting trees and converting street lamps to solar electrical where practical. As the newly appointed member of the city Environmental Advisory Committee, I can bring my experience on environmental issues to the table. For years I have advocated converting large green areas to urban forest and look forward to pushing this program ahead.

I am opposed to any special-coloured plastic covering of streets or street corners. A waste of taxpayers money and a distraction.

Councillor Bob Russell, St. Albert
