Interesting the letters to the editor and the vast differences of opinions.
Is not a class act to be responsible, accountable and transparent when you are spending your citizens’ tax dollars? I had always thought that should be the case. Yes, I agree that defaming individuals behind an anonymous front is juvenile and ignorant. On the other hand, what gives council the right to spend tax dollars on a legal defence for one individual? If the city was suing then it would be a different story perhaps.
Why is the city going through an identity crisis? As another reader wrote, St. Albert is already branded as the "Botanical Arts City." Not the painted intersection, fake grey bricks or plastic tiling in front of city hall. Concentrate on what we are known for and stop wasting money on nonsense.
If citizens and some members of council do not speak up, property taxes skyrocket each year, tax dollars get spent on frivolous items and city workers take the attitude they do not have to be accountable for how our tax dollars get spent.
For those who seek to be elected into these positions they need to be aware of their roles and responsibilities when they take these seats and get hired into these positions. I am pleased to see a shift in the way business is being done at city hall. It is a small start and lots more needs to change. At least it is a start and I am hopeful that council will continue to work on behalf of all of the citizens of St. Albert.
