Consultation in hospital closet

Last January, when trying to get medical attention at the St. Albert Medicentre on a Saturday afternoon, I noticed it was closed for the weekend.

I hesitated going to the emergency room for a non-emergency but when it became apparent that I definitely needed medical attention, I proceeded to the Sturgeon Community Hospital on Sunday morning at 7 a.m. There were only two or three people in the waiting room so I figured I would be helped rather quickly. When I proceeded to the desk I was immediately given a requisition for a lab test and proceeded to have that done.

Three hours later, since there were no cubicles available, I was escorted by the doctor into the storage closet by the hospital entry for some privacy as he explained the results and gave me a prescription. He apologized for the surroundings but felt it was better than relaying the information in front of a now more crowded emergency waiting room. I agree.
