In his commentary recently in the St. Albert Gazette, David Haas certainly makes a number of valid points and seems to question Canada's involvement in recent hostilities between Ukraine and Russia. I would ask if Mr. Haas would share the same sentiment if Putin were to send unmarked green men and hold a bogus referendum to annex Ellesmere Island? Putin has certainly demonstrated he covets barren peninsulas and islands. With a pacifist president in the White House, it is questionable whether the United States would have the stomach to come to Canada's aid in such a scenario. Considering recent encounters with Russian air force incursions into Canadian airspace and a Russian submarine provocatively planting a flag at the North Pole, which appears to be where this is going.
