Another Coal Mine Road Blunder? Just wanted to comment on an article in the Nov. 10 Gazette regarding the City's initiative to close another section of Coal Mine Road.
"What a Great Road Coal Mine could have been." It could have been a great collector road off the north end of the trail through Erin Ridge and into our neighbouring county.
This projected partial closure is counter-productive to the City's "traffic calming" initiatives along Erin Ridge Drive. This is a long, winding road through the residential area that more traffic is NOT needed on, as it is already a collector road.
The City has already commenced permanent and temporary curb extensions at various locations and has proposed a 40-kilometre-per-hour speed limit along the road, which I feel is warranted. These initiatives will hopefully calm and, I'm hoping, perhaps even reduce the amount of traffic – but now with the proposed closure at Coal Mine Road, I really wonder?
Here we go again ... the City takes one step forward and two steps backward.
